Help Me Stretch Myself

After my first ever #parkrun DNF (Did Not Finish) due to pulling my hamstring I have finally LEARNED my lesson.

A Warmup/Cooldown and stretching regime is MANDATORY!

My question is this:

What do you consider to be the “best” options?

  • A gentle run
  • Static stretches
  • dynamic stretches

Feel free to send links to YouTube etc as appropriate.

Marcothon (December Running) Update

Fast man!
Creative Commons License photo credit: Nick-K (Nikos Koutoulas)

The concept behind Marcothon was simple : run every day in December for at least 25 minutes or 3 miles.

My results:

  • 15 days out of 31
  • 18 runs in total
  • 75.51km or 46.92 miles covered
  • 10 hours 30 minutes running time

Officially that is a “fail” but it is my fourth best month in the year for distance and time but by far my best for actual number of runs.

I’m counting it as a HUGE success as it has been the ideal “warm up” for my 2011 running challenge.

Edinburgh Marathon Training Update

It’s been a while since I have written anything so apologies in advance about the length!

Marathon Team Update

Start with the good news: as of today the fundraising total hit £300 which is great but the marathon is no sprint, so lots more time (6 weeks gulp) to go. http://www.justgiving.com/26miles4chas
The not so good news: unfortunately Paul has had to pull out of the Edinburgh Marathon due to an injury he has picked up during training.
The better news: Paul has agreed to competitively run the distance of the marathon before the end of the year. Due to this, we will be keeping the fundraising page open until the end of the year so you can show your support.

New Year – New Fitness Regime

No New Years Resolutions, just a revisiting of the fitness regime I started last year.
It’s late so just a quick update.
I have started week 1 of both One Hundred PushUps and Two Hundred SitUps.
I have also had my first jog in over four months. I went back to my patented “lamp-post method”: jog for one lamp-post, walk for one. I managed to complete a mile in 20 minutes. I have suddenly remembered how much I love being out in the middle of the night. Watching a fox hunt in the field beside the road before I start.

100 Pushups – Week 3 = :(

One Hundred Pushups
One Hundred Pushups

Ended week 2 on a high ! Target was 124 pushups in the week and I managed 144, what a buzz.

My first exhaustion test got me 6 pushups. My second one at the weekend I managed 21 but that was a real struggle. I may have undone myself, this just pushed me into the second tier of effort.

The last set from last week was a total of 46, I managed 54.

The first set of this week the target was 83 (20, 15, 15, 13, >20) I only managed 77 (20, 15, 15, 13, 14). Still a personal best though !

I will persevere with the rest of the week, but I will have to repeat week three :(.

100 Pushups – Take 2

One Hundred Pushups

OK This one really didn’t get a chance.

The week I started, I ended up being away from home, then had a stressfull week following that.

I’m starting this again today. Even if I just continually do week one, it will still do me good, right!

Completed day one : Target = 28 Actual = 30 (but I’m sore already !)

New Personal Best ! — 4 Miles

Creative Commons License photo credit: Carmelo Aquilina

That is most definitely the furthest and fastest I have ever travelled by foot in the last decade !

OK, it was my slowest speed to date, but I’m not to concerned about speed just now.

My goal is to finish the 10K in 4 weeks time; gulp, I can’t believe it’s so soon !

If I could maintain my current 13minute mile I should come in under 1 hour 20 minutes, lets set that as a goal !
