What Did “Ross Goodman” Do?

Ross Goodman
Ross Goodman

Is this the Ross Goodman you are looking for?

I don’t know what happened but yesterday this blog saw a spike in traffic. It normally averages less than 80 views per day but yesterday – 539.

I have done some quick analysis:
Most of the traffic is coming from Google.
About 200 views hit my home page rather than a specific post, the others are on a variety of posts – no hotspot there.
The search terms used are no different from other days.

All I can surmise is that either another Ross Goodman (there are a few of us) has done something and lots of people have found this site or Google have changed an algorithm somewhere and I’m benefiting from it.

Let me know if you have any ideas!

Feedly Mobile App For Android Has Tag Support

The latest update to the Feedly application for Android has just added support for tags.

Previously; when I have found something “interesting” in Feedly, I have had to mark it as “Save For Later” and then when I’m next on my laptop or Chromebook, I convert my saved later articles to have the tag “BlogThis”.

Now; as soon as I find something I wish to share I can immediately tag the article “BlogThis” and the wheels will immediately start turning. I have an IFTT recipe which will  scan Feedly for articles tagged with “BlogThis” and will then push them onto my blog www.RossGoodman.com. From there, there I then push the content from my blog onto Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

Expect to see more “real time” updates in the future!

A Year In Retrospect

Just a quick summary of my on-line presence this year.

Twitter

I have invested a lot of content to Twitter this year.
This is primarily due to the convenience of the platform racking up almost 1200 updates in the year here.

Flickr / Photography

I can’t find a way to get stats for the year so here are my top five photos:
tennis
Car Crash Rescue 1
Lightning 5
Kelvingrove Heads 1
Car Crash Rescue 2

Web Site / Blog

By far the most popular post on the site was the photos page here.
Second most popular page is the “About Me” page here.
As for the blog entries themselves they rank at:
1 – Business Objects XI 3.0 New Features – Conditional Prompts
2 – Crystal Xcelsius – Filtered Rows From A Filter Component
3 – Modelling Change In Your Dimensions
4 – Business Objects XI 3.0 New Features – Change Data Tracking
5 – Dimensional Modelling – Facts
As you can see here the site only really started getting traffic last January so that gives me 17300 page views.

Personal Stuff

Obviously the biggest news of the year was the passing of my daughter Emma.
Celebrating the Life of Emma Berry Goodman
And the year ends on another low point with the passing of another member of my extended family.
